Journeying to Middle Earth: Keren & Jake's North Wales, Autumn Woodland Wedding

Back in September, I journeyed to Middle Earth to celebrate the spectacular, whimsical wedding of one of my incredible friends, Keren. By Middle Earth, I really mean North Wales of course and it was the first time I had ever travelled to those parts. As the fields became valleys and then mountains, my imagination came alive. It's easy to see why Keren is as creative and inspiring as she is, having grown up in such a beautiful part of the island. 

This wedding was incredibly special. Not just because Keren is one of my university friends, but because the love between all of the people present was so profound, and it radiated such a vibrant energy. All weddings are special of course, but I felt so incredibly honoured to be a part of Keren and Jake's perfect day. And it really couldn't have been more perfect. 

Perfect is a term I generally try not to bandy about when it comes to wedding goals, but with the September sun shining warming the woods and the guests,  views of the ocean and far off mountains,  and a sizzling hog roast dinner, Keren and Jake's day really was perfect. 

The day began at Keren's house where we had all stayed the night before. Keren and some of the bridesmaids used to be my housemates at University in first and second year and it was such joy to be reunited, particularly for such a cherished event. Keren lives in Criccieth and her garden looks out over to the sea which was as flat as a millpond. I was half guest, half photographer (must mostly guest :P) working alongside the talented Lucy Smith who was also a dear friend of the couple. 

Almost everybody involved were close to both Keren and Jake. The flowers were home grown and dried by family, we had all worked together to put up the decorations in the hall the day before and Keren and the bridesmaid's hair was done by her school friend, Ivy. 

Keren's friend Donna designed the stationary, and music was performed by her maid of honour and Lucy's husband. Keren and Jake had signed all the paperwork the day before at an intimate registry office ceremony, which meant they were allowed to do their ceremony before God in a place close to them by someone close to them. 

The service was so beautiful and Jake's father, as well as other close friends from their church, stood to give readings and prayers for them. 

After the dancing and merriment, we bid the couple warm wishes for their honeymoon and lit the way with and arch of sparklers. 

With apples, arrows, flowers and little woodlands - Keren's rustic wedding was reminiscent of a vibrant mix between Robin Hood and Lord of the Rings. 

Thank you so much Keren and Jake for being amazing people, for continually demonstrating such a profound goodness and grace, for being two of the most gentle souls I know and for being a part of my life and letting me be a part of such a treasured memory. I look forward to catching up with you both in the summer :)
